So I understand that I can set Age Limits on a Public Folder DB and that is inherited by all folders.  I also know I can set an Age Limit on a particular folder and that will take precedence.

I was wondering about Age Limits and inheritance.  I ran a quick test, setup a PF with an Age Limit, then I created a subfolder.  It didn't inherit the age limit of the parent folder so I guess Age Limits aren't inherited.

Question now, is there a way to make retention periods inherted or use something else to ensure new folders inherit the retention period of the p

By default, a public folder inherits the settings of its parent folder, including the permissions settings.

Yes so it goes over what I said.  Users who have permissions to create public folders don't have the ability to set the retention policies, nor should they, but this creates a situation.

The problem is that a user could create a new folder, drag old emails into it, and they'd be subject to the default policies.  Email could be lost.

If you want to use different retention policy on different folder, why not use personal tag ? Personally think this is a best way to achieve the goal you mentioned.
