Public Folders
HI there,
im wondering if you can help me. We have recently moved from exch2000 to exch2007 and all is working fine except a strange problem with problem folders. Now i recently thought that everything was moved off the old exch2000 server so i decided to switch off all MSExch services on the exch2000 server now everytime i start my outlook 2007 client it asks me to log in to the old exch2000. Now when i check the connection status of outlook 2007 through right clicking on the outlook icon in the sys tray it tells me that its trying to get public folders from the old exch2000 server and if i click cancel to the login box the public folders connection will change to a EXch server in another domain and therefore when accessing public folders its very slow.
Now i do have a PF DB setup and there isnt any replica's going between the 2 servers.
If i test the outlook web services against my own account these are the results i get

If you open the properties for the database(s) that the users are located in and select the Client Settings tab, does the Default public folder database point to a valid PF database or is it pointing to the defunct public folder? You will need to repoint them if this isn't correct.

Issue description: Outlook always ask to login old exchange 2000 server which has already decommissioned for public folder access
Check info:
1. Please describe the current exchange topology, and public folder related configuration
2. Does the issue occur to all users?
3. Please check the setting of mailbox database as Lord_vader suggested, thats the first thing we shall check
4. Is there any error or warning event in the application log on the both exchange server and client?
5. Please run ExBPA against the exchange server for a health check
Troubleshooting:
Please check the public folder configuration in the AD via ADSI Editor:
1. Please verify if mailbox store points the right public folder store
a. Start->Run->ADSIEdit.msc
b. Expand Configuration->CN= Configuration,DC=DomainName,DC=Com->CN=Services->CN=Microsoft Exchange->CN=OrganizationName->CN=Exchange Administrative Group (xxx)->CN=Servers->CN=ServerName->CN=InformationStore->CN=MailboxStoreStorageGroupName
c. In the right pane, double-click CN=MailboxStoreName entry, check msExchHomePublicMDB attribute in the Attribute Editor tab
Notes: The Value shall be looked like (CN=Public Folder Database,CN=Second Storage Group,CN=InformationStore,CN=SGC,CN=Servers,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=Organization,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=SG,DC=com)
2. Please verify if public folder store in the step 1 points to the right public folder hierarchy
a. Start->Run->ADSIEdit.msc
b. Expand Configuration->CN= Configuration,DC=DomainName,DC=Com->CN=Services->CN=Microsoft Exchange->CN=OrganizationName->CN=Exchange Administrative Group (xxx)->CN=Servers->CN=ServerName->CN=InformationStore->CN=PublicFolderStorageGroupName
c. In the right pane, double-click CN=PublicFolderStoreName entry, check msExchOwningPFTreeBL attribute in the Attribute Editor tab, copy the value of the attribute into a notepad
d. Now, please go to Configuration->CN= Configuration,DC=DomainName,DC=Com->CN=Services->CN=Microsoft Exchange->CN= OrganizationName->CN=Exchange Administrative Group (xxx)->CN=Folder Hierarchies
e. In the right pane, we can find CN=Public Folders entry, double-click it, copy the value of distinguishedName attribute in the Attribute Editor tab to the same notepad
f. The value of msExchOwningPFTreeBL attribute shall be same as the value of distinguishedName attribute
3. Please verify if the msExchOwningPFTreeBL attribute of the CN=Public Folders entry contain the path of all public stores on all existing servers, and make sure that path of public stores of exchange 2000 server doesnt exist
a. Start->Run->ADSIEdit.msc
b. Expand to Configuration->CN= Configuration,DC=DomainName,DC=Com->CN=Services->CN=Microsoft Exchange->CN= OrganizationName->CN=Exchange Administrative Group (xxx)->CN=Folder Hierarchies
c. In the right pane, double-click CN=Public Folders entry, check msExchOwningPFTreeBL attribute in the Attribute Editor tab
Notes: The values in it are the path of public stores, the format shall be like (CN=Public Folder Store (SERVER2),CN=First Storage Group,CN=InformationStore,CN=SERVER2,CN=Servers,CN=First Administrative Group,CN=Administrative Groups,CN=Orgnization,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=lab,DC=com)
