Public folder mail enabled issues
Hi, i just set exchange 2007 up to move my company away from the mail server we currently use as we have outgrown it.All seemed fine until it came to public folders, i initially created these in exchange and then imported our mail into them and mail enabled the relevant folders. This all worked ok until users tried moving mail and deleting mail etc. I read around on the net and found i should really make the folders in outlook to make it easier setting permissions etc - that or fire up powershell.I chose to rename my old folders adding _OLD on the end of them and re-creating the folders via outlook.eg: IT became IT_OLDi mail disabled the folders and moved mail out of the _OLD folders and into the new ones which i can easily set permissions on etc. All this went fine, i then removed the _OLD folders and mail enabled the new ones. Now however when i try send an email to "IT" outlook shows two recipient predictions:<IT><IT32812923HDHD33SD> (or something like that)sending email to either of these fails, the email address on the folder is correct, as foldername@domain.comive tried sending mail typing the full address out foldername@domain.com and it gets resolved to the foldername282SDFDJDJDLS address. While poking around in exchange i saw some place with the folders email friendly name and other info, but didnt want to edit it incase that wasnt it, ive now gone looking for that option window again and cant seem to find it anywhere!Im fairly sure this is a friendly name issue, or perhaps the GAL is messed up, im not 100% as my experience in exchange isnt the best.could someone point me in the right direction?any help much appreciated :)

So, the issue is, you can’t send mails to a public folder (Foldename@domain.com), right?
Does the issue happen to other mail-enabled public folders?
Please check the type of the problematic public folder in the “Microsoft Exchange System Objects” container via ADUC, see if it’s “publicFolder”. Also, please search the problematic public folder with its e-mail address by using the “Find” in the ADUC

Is it correct? Is the “foldername282SDFDJDJDLS” the name of the public folder?James Luo TechNet Subscriber Support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx) If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com

After maintenance has run over the weekend, mail is now being recieved if i type the address out explicitly. IT@domain.comhowever theres now 3 items showing up in the address prediction when i start typing the address into the "send to:" box.<IT84D253C24C282F92C46AD497F15948B1AA9C5E><IT84D253C24C282F92C46AD497F15948B1266D91><IT>which in the properties window point to:/O=DOMAIN/OU=EXCHANGE ADMINISTRATIVE GROUP (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=IT84D253C24C282F92C46AD497F15948B1AA9C5E/O=DOMAIN/OU=EXCHANGE ADMINISTRATIVE GROUP (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=IT84D253C24C282F92C46AD497F15948B1266D91/o=DOMAIN/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Recipients/cn=ITif i send a mail to any of these it fails. Thanks for the reply james. The item is a public folder yes, and it shows in ADUC, this is happening to all but one of my mail enabled folders. The mail enabled folder is called "IT" and its email address is, as default, it@domain.com - but for some reason the entries in the email prediction text (when you start typing an address it pops up suggestions) are wrong and pointing at the wrong location. one of the entries seems to point to the right place, but the mail fails to deliver (see error text in my previous message)typing the address for the folder out explicitly as "foldername@domain.com" does however deliver the mail.ive run update on the OAB but that doesent seem to have fixed it.

UPDATE: i seem to have fixed the issue by running the update on the OAB and removing and readding/mail enabling the folders.however users still have the issue since outlook remembers which email addresses you have used in the past and the displays them in the "send to" bar as you type.how can i clear this cache for my users?sorry, silly questions, but my experience with exchange isnt what it should be.regards,*EDIT: documents and settings/%USERNAME%/microsoft/outlook/outlook.NK2deleting that file removes the sent address cache.

I had a similar issue to this in my environment. The issue was that after restoring a public folder the email address in the global address book changed to Public_Folder_Recovered@mydomain.com
mail disabling / enabling did not fix the issue, instead it resulted in more entries being added to the global address book for this public folder.
To overcome this issue, I had to do the following
* mail disable the public folder
* open adsiedit.msc on the global catalogue server
* browse to CN=Microsoft Exchange System Objects
* delete entries for the public folder (note: I had some CN=public folder 97591662* entries here as well which where the extra addresses in the global address book)
* mail enable the public folder
hope this helps.
