hi,
I don't think it is related to the permission.
If the message has arrived at your exchange server, you can use the message tracking to find some more information about these messages.

Post the result.

If default and anonymous client permissions are set to none, only specific users can send mails to folder.Regards, Konrad Sagala, MCT, MCSE+M, MCITP: Exchange 2007/2010

Hi, the emails do not arrive in the PF. A NDR gets generated. Do you mean i must still run the tool even though the message doesn't appear in the PF?

hi,
Yes. According to the NDR that you post above. It seems that the message has been sent to your exchange server. But it is failed when the message is been delivered to the mailbox(PF). So you can use the tool to find more detail information.
It can help us troubleshoot your issue.
hope can help you

Hi all
When doing a message tracking on a email send to the PF, i can see that it shows a NDR is being delivered but how do i see more info ie. why it is generating a NDR?

Hi Rich
thanks for your response. I am using the Message Tracking Centre and once the results appear from my search i can open an entry and the Message History box will appear with only 2 columns ie. Event Time and Event. In the Event Time is the time of the event
and the Event says : SMTP: non-delivery Report (NDR) Generated. There is no other information. Are we talking about the same place?
June 19th, 2012 1:11am
Anyone have more ideas as to how i can troubleshoot this please?

Sorry. You're running 2003. I thought it was 2007.
What are the client permissions on that public folder? Who has the
"Contributor" role, or the right to create items in the folder?

Hi rich
these are the clients permissions.
Default group has create items, read items and folder visible
Anonymous has Create Items
there are a few other entries in the list but those are individual accounts

I have just created a new test PF and asked 1 or 2 users to send a test and both get the error back but my emails go through. i did give myself full access on the root PF folder in System Manager so maybe that is the reason why i can email it but why would
it refuse other mails? Anyone that may be able to help?

Then it's unlikely that it's simple public folder permission problem
where the Anonymous group doesn't have the "Contributor" role (the
most frequent kind of problem).
Since Anonymous has permisson to create items, do you have any problem
with the folder refusing to accept e-mail from the Internet?

You didn't say what SP of Exchange 2003 you're running. Does this
apply to you?

Try using PFDAVADMIN and checking the DACLs on the folder. Maybe
someone's rearranged the DACL order to the NTFS order instead of the
MAPI order. PFDAVADMIN can rearrange them for you.
Also, check the client permissions on the folder by holding down the
"Ctrl" key and clicking the "Client permissions..." button. Do the
same set of users show up in that list?

You obviously haven't worked with public folders for very long. ;-)
There are many reasons a lot of Exchange admins would love to see them
disappear.

Do you have the same problem if they use OWA and send an e-mail to the
folder?

Ahaaa, found some interesting details
read through the article which explains how Exchange Enterprise Server group must have read access on all groups and their groups. Then i went through all the group the account i'm testing with is a member off and all groups looked fine but still the error.
removed all the member of groups except domain users and voila....it worked. Now to put the groups back bit by bit to identify which are the problematic ones
