Question about 2 exchange 2010 and smtp server, do i use CAS or HUB ip?
Hi everyone, I have a very general question. If i have 2 Exchange 2010 servers and both of them have CAS, HUB and MB roles on them. I create a CAS array for my 2 servers and i then introduce a program that sends out reports to the business. on that application when it ask for a SMTP server, what role do you normally point it to? HUB or CAS? i know in my case they are both on the same server. I am asking because we use a CAS array, and it would be nice if it used the CAS array so that if one server goes down, another one could send the email. All SMTP traffic goes to the Hub Transport role. The CAS array will not answer any of that traffic. What you can do is use DNS Round Robin for Hub Transport high availability. I had a previous client that used multiple DNS entries for the Hub role pointed to smtp.domain.local. See this article for some more material on this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff634392.aspx. Let us know if that helps.JAUCG

That is awesome.. thank you very much. everything else is in HA. CAS Array, Dag, VMware vMotion and Disaster recovery. etc etc... now i just need a HA on hub transport :) at least now if one server with an application on it that need to send an report out. it is not hard coded to only 1 server..
