Question on replicating Public Folders off server
Hi We are running Exchange 2003 SP2. We have multiple Exchange servers (Paris, Munich, NY, Berlin). Munich and Berlin now have excellent network links between them, so our plan was to move all the Munich mailboxes to the Berlin Exchange server, which we have done. Everything seems fine, however there are still some Public Folder instances on the Munich server. Questions; 1) How do I know if these PF instances also exist on the Berlin PF store?2) If they exist on the Berlin PF store, can the Munich ones simply be deleted?3) Even if they exist elsewhere, can I still move the PF instances on Munich off to another location?4) Does any change need to be made on Outlook clients? Thanks

Hi,1.) From the properties of the folder you can tell if replicas exists on another server2.) Yes, just remove the replica3.) Yes, you can add the replica to any other public folder server and remove the desired replica4.) NoLeif

You can either manually add /remove replica or can use the utility called PFMIGRATE. PFMIGRATE allows you to move a bunch of Public Folders from an Exchange Server to an Exchange 2003 Server from the command line. PFMIGRATE.WSF is a Script, which is located on the Exchange 2003 CD and the Exchange 2003 SP1 under SUPPORT\EXDEPLOY. PFMIGRATE requires ONE Exchange 2003 Server in your Enterprise because PFMIGRATE uses specific WMI functions from Exchange 2003. The syntax is simple: To move System Folders PFMIGRATE.WSF /S:SourceServer /T:DestinationServer /SF /A /N:100 /F:C:\LOGFILE.LOG To move Public Folders PFMIGRATE.WSF /S:SourceServer /T:DestinationServer /A /N:100 /F:C:\LOGFILE.LOG To remove Public Folders after succesful Replication PFMIGRATE.WSF /S:SourceServer /T:DestinationServer /D Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

To add to the other replies. Be sure to compare item counts between replicas before removing any source replicas. That is the key part to ensure you arent going to lose any data.No change needs to be made to the Outlook clients, however the mailbox store needs to point to a valid public folder store, so be sure to verify that as well in ESM.
