RPC connection status troubleshooting
I am frequently getting a couple of connections "hung" in "Connecting" status, while the majority reach teh "Established" status fairly quickly. The Type of the "Connecting" connections is typically "Public Folder" or "Referral" and this results in Outlook
being hung.
What is originating each connection and what can be done to avoidthe problem, that sometimes does not occur?
Thanks in advance!

Hi
Please post version of outlook and exchange.
Do you set up VPN for your outlook client?
Do you install antivirus software on server or in local network?
Does it occur on one user or all users?
According to your saying, you can do test.
1. If only a few users meet this problem, you can delete and recreate profile of outlook or reloading office/OS
2. If all users meet this error at same time, it is network error. You should analyze traffic of your local network.
3. Email or contact in public folder is corrupt. You can enable RPC log

Thanks Terence
I am running Outlook 2003 and, I think, Exchange 2003 (we're moving to 2007).
I was not setting a VPN; we have McAfee as corporate antivirus.
I am told this was happening only to me, as no one connects through RPC, I do as I am not on the company domain
Anyways, I tried to run the RPC diagnostics but got errors so I tried a "low tech" action, i.e. I removed two "old" Outlook profiles that I notices were sometimes originating connections that would hang in the "Connecting" status, even if the profile were
not selected...
As a result I am currently not experiencing the problem anymore, even if in the majority of the times the connections with problems were not "originated" by the mail profiles I removed...
Finger crossed and thanks again
