RSG Exchange 2007 SP1
Hello There,It seems RSG Exchange 2007 SP1 can only been created on the server where production database located. Is it possible to create a RSG to another Exchange 2007 server as we can do on Exchange 2003? For Example, we only have exchange 2007 SP1 CCR for mailbox server and an Exchange 2007 SP1 with Public folder server with mailbox server role. Can we do RSG recovery for database on CCR on the Exchange 2007 SP public folder server since We run issue with exchange CCR when we do RSG recovery on it?Thanks

Yes, Just rerstore backup to active node first (You can restore to alternate location too depend which backup solution you are using) and then copy restored DB and log to PF sevrer.Create RSG on PF sevrer and give p[ath od DB and LOG which you have copued to PF sevrer.Mound RSG and play with it, We have tested it and worked well for me. [PS] C:\>New-StorageGroup -Server pf-server -Name RSG -logfolderpath "D:\log" -SystemFolderPath "D:\log" -recovery [PS] C:\>New-MailboxDatabase -MailboxDatabaseToRecover "Location of original DB against you are cresating RSG" -StorageGroup "pf-server\rsg" -EdbFilePath "d:\db\db.edb" [PS] C:\>set-mailboxdatabase -id "pf-server\rsg\db" -AllowFileRestore $true [PS] C:\>Get-StorageGroup RSG |fl [PS] C:\>mount-database -id "pf-server\rsg\db" Anil

Hello there, Thanks for your reply, restore to the first node first is not an option, as I mentioned before, restore process caused my production server to respond slow to requester, we had to failover to the 2nd node. Actually the pf server is critical too since we host Cisco Unity mailboxes for vm users. I have Symantec backup exec 12.5. I am considering to add a restore server to production. I prefer to Install Exchange 2007 SP1 on Windows 2003 64 bit, if it's not OK, then will use Windows 2008 std edition, hope I don't have to go Windows 2008 Enterprise edition (that cost too much if avoidable). Please let me know which OS will fit my needs. Again my production maiolbox server is 2007 SP1 CCR on Windows 2008 SP! Enterprise edition Here is my plan, Install Exchange 2007 SP1 as mailbox server role create new SG name the same as the production SG I would like to restore create new Mailbox database the same as the mailbox database I would like to restore create RSG for the database on the restore server use Symantec backup to redirect Exchange option point to the restore server, choose redirect to RSG restore option for Exchange 2007 Will this solution work? I may use Exmerge to export the mailbox to a pst file or if I can restore the edb file, I have EMC Kroll application to read edb file and restore mailbox to a pst file. Thanks again
