Random Delivery Notifications
When we send an email to a distribution group, we get a"was delivered to the following recipient(s):" from one recipient even though none was requested. It seems to be random with the delivery reciept comming from a different user every time. Any ideas on what could be causing this? We have one Exchange 2003 server.

I'm having the same problem, but, it's happening on 2 different distribution lists. 1 list will consistently reply back with the same user, the other list will be random users from the list. I've deleted and re-created the distribution lists, and the error keeps happening. When doing message tracking, the line that says "SMTP: Message Delivered Locally to multiple recipients" will list all users, but directly under that, the "SMTP Store Driver: Message Delivered Locally to Store to email@domain.com" lists all users except the one not getting the email, or basically the one that's sending back the notification that they did get it. I'm stumped.

I would like to add that we are having exactly the same problem. I am randomly getting mails from people asking what to do with this because they are not requesting a deliviry report. And they always get a report from 1 person. This is not one and the same person. Here an example of one of the mails. I have edited a bit. Removed the names of the persons involved.I got 3 more of these kind of mails. Is there a reason/solution for these mails?-----Original Message-----From: System Administrator Sent: maandag 28 januari 2008 14:48To: ##### (employee A)Subject: Delivered: IFS werkinstructies en manuals engineeringYour message To: ##### (23 receiving employees) Subject: workinstruction Sent: 28-1-2008 14:48was delivered to the following recipient(s): ##### (employee A) on 28-1-2008 14:48

We are having this same issue too. Also only have 1 exchange 2003 server.
The users report that the address in theDelivery Notificationlisted as "delivered"is the only one who DID NOT receive the email.

We too have found that the use listed as "delivered" is not recieving the email. I have tried everything I can think of but the problem persits.

We are also having this issue. The email always originates from the same user but to different email groups. There's always one person that doesn't get the email but the sender gets a delivered receipt from System Administrator.
Any help would be great!

Well, we might have a possible cause/suggestion, but we are interested in input from others with this same issue. We've had the exact same problem with Random Delivery Notifications for about 3 or 4 months now. Major annoyance (and possible problem since the one person it SAYS gets the e-mail usually actually doesn't).Did a little experiment over the weekend, since I e-mail a specific distribution group once a week and ALWAYS get one of these delivery notifications. We use a third-party app to append signatures/disclaimers to all outgoing e-mails, and tried turning it off over the weekend. To our surprise, when this app is turned off, I received NO random delivery notifications when I e-mailed a group I always get one back on. Then, I turned the sig/disclaimer app back on (on the Ex. server) and sent another e-mail to the same distribution list/group. Surprise; I received a random delivery notification e-mail again. So, at this point, we're 99% sure the interaction of this third-party signature/disclaimer app has something to do with it.Does anyone else having the Random Delivery Notification problem use a third-party signature/disclaimer app? If so, that may have something to do with it. It appears to for us.We're going to call for support/upgrade on it and see if that takes care of the problem. We'll post in a few days with the results.Hope this helps some of you having the same issue.

We're using Exclaimer 4.30 and are having the exact same issue.... When sending to a distribution list, the one person who it says it was delivered to is the one who did not get the message. I'm going to upgrade the newest version of Exclaimer and see if that helps.
Frank, what have you found out?

Ahhhh yes, we're using Exclaimer 4.30 here as well on our back end servers. it looks like 4.56 is the latest & greatest version they offer. Please let us know if that's version you upgraded to (& what version you're upgrading from), and if it resolved your problem! Thanks!J

We are also on Exclaimer version 4.30 (and Exchange 2003).I have just e-mailed a trouble ticket to Exclaimer to see what they say. If anyone upgrades from 4.30 to the latest (4.56 was it?), let us know if that solves the problem. We haven't upgraded yet, and probably won't for a few days.Hopefully we can get this little problem resolved now that all the people on this thread have a better idea what's probably causing it.

Well, we upgraded to the newer 4.56 version of Exclaimer today (4/13/08), and I didn't get a 'delivery notification' to a group e-mail that I send out every week!!! So, it APPEARS that our upgrading to the newer version fixed the random delivery notification issue.I hope this helps everyone else having this issue.Let us know if it works or doesn't work for you! Thanks.Frank T.

We also use Exclaimer 4.3 and just upgraded to the new version today. It's good to hear that this will fix the problem as this whole issue was causing a lot of problems.

I upgraded Exclaimer over a month ago. Since that point we have not seen this issue again.
Exclaimer cost me a lot of time because of this issue!! At least it's solved now.

You may use ExMetabaseCheck.msi tool & find the sinks of Exclaimer from SMTP, then use MetaEdit.exe tool to remove these sinks from SMTP. If it works then the problem is with Exclaimer. I found in many cases, exclaimer utility causes this problem.
