Re-IP of Exchange servers
Hello,We are currently running Exchange 2003/2007 servers in our org. There are multiple routing/administrative groups. One Admin/RG is called Germany and we need to change the IP address of a couple of the Exchange 2003 servers there, we're not sure which ones yet.Apart from actually changing the IP address in the Network Properties, is there anything else we need to do on the servers themselves? And is there anything else the other Exchange servers need to do to be reflected with this change? And does the role of the server make a difference (e.g. Mailbox server, Exchange bridgehead server, Public folder server)?

Most of the time Exchange infrastructure runs on Names which is taken care by DNS. So make sure that after doing IP change all of your DNS gets updated propeorly with the new IP addresss. Also change the IP address on all the FWs or the Routers from where ever there is a port forwarding from MX to the internal CAS or HUB servers.Raj

Make sure DNS and WINS is updated correctly. If you have any ip restrictions on other SMTP virtual servers or bridgeheads or smarthosts. etc..anywhere, make sure those get updated. Also make sure IIS is set to all assigned IP addresses. The role of the server doesnt matter unless its an Exchange Cluster Server:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997813(EXCHG.65).aspxhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/315691And of course, backups before any change just to be sure.

Thanks all, so does Exchange use DNS or WINS, or both? Both , since you have Exchange 2003 in the mix, you still require netbios resolution which is typically handled by WINS.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837391"Exchange Server 2003 and Exchange 2000 Server require NetBIOS name resolution for full functionality"
