Read Receipt to distribution list
We have 3 different branches. We have 3 different distribution list for each branch. We have one distribution list that contains all 3 branch distribution lists to make it a company-wide distribution list.
It appears that when sending an email to the company-wide distribution list, the user will not get a read-receipt, however, when sending one to simply one of the branch distribution lists, it works fine. Any idea what causes this?
Turns out that there are no email/exchange tabs on this group like there are on the others. Is there any way to just simply enable this as opposed to re-creating the distribution group?

That is the expected behaviour. The only way you would get a receipt back is to expand every group. However even that isn't guaranteed to get everyone. Send me an email with a receipt request and you will not get one back.

Thanks for your reply. Actually, it appears that when I created 2 DLs and put one inside the other, the receipt works actually. The company wide DL doesnt appear to have an email address, just a DL address (if I'm making any sense). Every DL has exchange tabs
and everything except for our company-wide DL.

That would tend to indicate the group isn't mail enabled, or didn't mail enable properly.

Hi,
I did the test too. when I created two DLs and put one inside the other, the receipt works actually. But this test was done in single domain Exchange 2003 environment.
For example, I add DL2
as member of DL1, and DL2 is the only member of DL1, the receipt works actually.
BTW, what is the version of your Exchange server?
I found if the distribution list is not mail enabled, we can’t send email to the distribution list on Exchange 2003.

Exchange server does not send NDRs, read receipts, delivery receipts, or out-of-office messages to members of distribution groups.
Delivery status notifications are sent either to the sender of the message or to the owner of the distribution group

Did you check the owner of the 3 different distribution list and the company-wide distribution list?

Sorry, I should've mentioned. It was set to do not send delivery reports. I just changed it to send delivery reports to message originator I believe the option was and it actually worked.
