Receiving event id 9360-OALGen encountered an error while generating the changes.oab
Hello All, I had enabled the Diagnostics logging for category OAL Generator so that i find more logs and helps in troubleshooting. After observing the event logs for the whole day I found that the OAL generation process is completing. From event 9106(start of process) to 9107(Completion of generation) but we are still receiving event id 9360 which is related to changes.oab. Please help me what needs to done or what needs to be check so that I will not receive this alert and is there any issues with this event id?

When referring to event log messages, please post the entire event log entry. The handy-dandy copy-to-clipboard button in the event detail window can help you with this. Few of us have memorized every event ID or want to do research just to understand your question.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Hi ED, Sorry for this, please see the below details of event id. I referred to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922255 article but i am not receiving Event ID 9331 so this article is not applicable. Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeSA Event Category: OAL Generator Event ID: 9360 Date: 23/07/2012 Time: 06:02:21 User: N/A Computer: XXXXXXX Description: OALGen encountered an error while generating the changes.oab file for version 2 and 3 differential downloads of address list '\Global Address List'. The offline address list has not been updated so clients will not be able to download the current set of changes. Check other logged events to find the cause of this error. If the cause of the problem was intentional or cannot be resolved, OALGen can be forced to post a full offline address list by creating the DWORD registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeSA\Parameters\OAL post full if diff fails' and setting it to 1 on this server. When OALGen next generates the offline address list, clients will perform a full OAB download. After that time, the registry key should be removed to prevent further full downloads. - New Offline Address List For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.

Hi thanks for your update 1. On OAB Generation Server, the Mailbox Store holding System Attendant Mailbox may be dismounted. Please check it. 2.Can you find event 9109 and 9341 on exchange server ? You can try this way Check the properties of the OAB version X folder (where X is 2, 3a, or 4) that you are planning to remove and rebuild. Check the Replication page and note what servers hold a replica of this folder instance. -+ Using Exchange System Manager (ESM), Delete both instances of OAB version 2 from the Folders -> Public Folders list. - Next, on the OAL Gen servers Public Folder store, Right Click folder -> Send Hierarchy to force the replication of this deletion. - Confirm that the deletion has taken place on any remaining servers that previously held a replica. - Perform a Rebuild on the Default Offline Address List - Check the Application Log until you see Event 9107. - Using ESM, check the "First Admin Group\Folders\Public Folders" instances for a new single instance of the OAB version X that was deleted earlier in these steps. The folder should now exist and should also contain new content reflecting the current date. Repeat the above steps for any remaining OAB version X folders that are not updating properly. Finally, check the clients that had exhibited the out of date Offline Address Books.Terence Yu TechNet Community Support

Hi Terence, Thanks for this and I surely will follow this. We use this server as to restore mailboxes and when you mentioned to check the Dismounted Mailbox store I found the Recovery storage group- Mailbox store was dismounted. I have removed it, so is this related to the dismounted store? And yes, event ids9109 and 9341 are being logged on PF server.

No, it wouldn't be a recovery mailbox store. If you're not using a recovery database and storage group, you should delete them. Follow the instructions in the event log entry you posted to see if you can force the full address book to be regenerated. Look at the event log for errors in the process when you kick off the address book generation.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."
