We went to Exchange 2007 a year ago and removed our Exchange 2003 server also at that time. I recently ran the Best Practices Analyzer and received the error: "The specified Exchange server (EXCHANGE-2) for processing Recipient Update Service 'Recipient Update Service (GGLO) 1' is running Exchange Server 2007. The service will not process updates in this configuration, please choose a non-Exchange Server 2007 server to host the service."I have seen plenty of instructions for removing the last Exchange 2003 server and how to move the RUS. However, what do I do now as a result of this error since we removed our 2K3 server a year ago? I have also read that Exchange 2007 does not even use RUS, which is confusing since you are instructed to move it there before decommisioning your last 2K3 server.ThanksDon't sweat the hard stuff."

Well, the recommended method for this issue is to designate an exchange 2000/2003 Server to host the Recipient Update Service (Reference) However, since you wont need RUS in the exchange 2007. Please refer to link provided by cn9 to remove the RUS container in the AD Notes: Please take the system state backup before the action, and also clear all event logs After the action, please restart exchange AD topology service, and check the event log

Maybe the BPA should be updated to cover situations where people really did get rid of 2003... ?

Okay, I used ADSI Edit to remove the RUS Enterprise configuration, and there were no errors after restarting teh Topology Service. However I still get the same error after running the BPA. I was assuming since I no longer have any Exchange 2003 servers that I would not do the fisrt part that instructs to open Exchange 2003 Manager and delete the services. Or is it possible to run the 2003 manager and point it to the 2007 server?If not, I am ready to ignore this because it doesn't seem to be hurting anything. If you didn't do that step, then you've only deleted the Enterprise RUS but not the one for the domain or any other ones you've madeYou can probably delete those through ADSI edit but if you want to follow the technet guidance you couldtry installingthe 2003 admin tools on a workstation and do it from there
