Recover an Offline Exchange 2003 Mailbox Database
I need some input with anyone who has successfully recovered an offline Exchange 2003 mailbox database. I need access to one mailbox within the database. We have good backups of the original datbase. To cut a long story short, we have a high status user whose mailbox was 'left behind' in a migration from EX2003 to 2010. The account and mailbox itself were removed/recreated after all the Stores containing all databases were dropped thinking the users had been completely migrated. I have tried all the usual methods of recovery of this database and individual mailbox restore from the RSG and ExMerge etc., but I get errors relating to mismatched GUIDs: [14:55:05] Error! Cannot identify the user with the msExchMailboxGuid \A4G\DBa2\F5\A4K\8CF\82\F0\DC\B7\D7\A4. The legacyExchangeDN is /O=ourcompany /OU=AG1/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=ouruser. I seem to recall you can manipulate the msExchangeMailboxGuid to get it working again but i believe it might be worthwhile just mounting the EDB and PST’ing the mailbox, then importing it into a new mailbox on EX2010 we have created for the user. Since i am unable to use ExMerge or any other means within the Recovery Storage Group online, I was attempting to use Quest Recovery Manager for Exchange to access the intact database which we have good copies of. However that software is erroring out with an error relating to missing Exchange libraries. I’m circling with Quest support on that but thought I’d throw it open for assistance. Suggestions??? Thank in advance.

This issue occurs if the original user account of a mailbox has been deleted. This article describes how to work around this issue by moving the affected mailbox into the original mailbox store.
