Exchange Server 2007 running on Server 2k3 all via VMWare I had a catastrophic failure on my Exchange server, someone deleted the VM files for that virtual machine. The good news is I had all the Exchange DBs stored on my NetApp FAS 2020 via LUNs. I created another Virtual, named it the same as the old Exchange server name. I reset the old Exchange Server AD computer account. Got the new machine back on the domain and copied all my DBs back to the same locations as they were on the previous server. My question is should I run setup.com /M:RecoverServer to reinstall Exchange using the previously stored info in AD or do a clean install and import the DBs? What are the Pros / Cons for each, is one preferred over the other?

If you recover wit the M switch, you would not have to worry about Exchange related info stored in AD. If you don't, you might have to configure everything manually.

Jose, I went ahead and ran with the /:M switch and it appeared to run without issuses. I opened up Exchange Management Console and ran a Health Check and get the following errors: Site Server Folder Deleted Routing Master has been deleted Offline Address Book definition is missing "Background Cleanup" is missing Database backup critical Any ideas what these are related to?

Can you check event logs and post it here. I would check OAB as well. Do you see your send/receive connectors?

Thanks for the links, all worked except the one referring to routing groups. The link you posted references Configuration>Services>Microsoft_Exchange>Domain>Routing_Groups>Domain in ASDIEdit. I don't see a Domain option under Microsoft Exchange Server.

Please run he health check again the article refers to exchange 2003 and routing groups will be present if you are/were in co-existence mode.

Ran health check again and still have the Routing Master has been deleted message. I have a single Exchange 2k7 server on my domain.

Do you have the DB(s) mounted?
