Remember username when logging onto network and email
Hi there, Please can you help me with the following? When users log on to our network with their pc's, every time they have to put in their username and password. I am trying to find the setting on our domain controller to remember the users username, this is the same for email as well. Both our domain controller and email server are running windows 2003 server. Many thanks.

By default the PC will remember the user name. A GPO can turn this off so whoever manages your AD has made the decision to stop this behaviour and force it. You will probably need to take it up with them. Email should, if you're using Outlook and the client is on the domain, go straight in. Look on the properties of the mail settings (tools - email accounts) to see if the "Always Prompt" is there for email settings.

Hi , thanks for your message. Unfortunatley we have no one at the moment that looks after our AD and I am new to all of this. Could you please tell me where to look on the AD? We are using outlook for our email and when we open it we have to put in domain name\username and our network password, I checked what you said and alway prompt is not selected.

Sure: If you want to play with it in the registry you can find it here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SeCEdit\Reg Values\MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/System/DontDisplayLastUserName That's the key. I imagine it's set to 1 and should be 0. Not sure what's happening with Outlook although if you are using Outlook 2003 on RPC over HTTPS then you will always get a popup.
