Removal of Exchange service from server
Greeting all,I have a domain controller which previously ran as an Exchange server as well. Since my company alrerady outsourced the mail service to other vendor, so I'm considering to remove the Exchange server "role". The reason lead to this is because the Exchange log folder is consuming lot of space on the server itself (located in C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\<domain name>.log). The log genarated daily, to make thing worse it consumed almost all the space on the server (70-80GB). So before I want to get rid of it, below are few questions I would like to ask:
I've found the way to stop the services, is this a way safe to implement as stated here?
Will the removal of these services affect the IIS & other services? The domain controller is currently server as a backup web server (in case the main web server down)?
How to remove Exchange server "role" from the machine permanently?Thank for any input in advance.Cheers,Khoo

Since you dont use Exchange, you can simply delete most of the log files. The oldest half should be safe.
Use Add/Removeprogram from Control Panel and uninstall Exchange

thank you sir for the advise, so I can assume there won't be any impact on other services by uninstalling the Exchange.
I've already zip the older log files before, but the latest a log file is, the bigger it's in size. can anyone enlighten me on this?

that's the thing which bothering me. Our company already outsourced the email system to other vendor, so the server is no longer playing an "Exchange Server" role. What I can think of is that there are some Exchange services still running on the server, which is why the log is still generated on daily basis. The size of the log file is around 400~500MB each, the log files can't be opened because of it's big size.

I think what you are describing are the message tracking logs. Launch Exchange Systems Manager (ESM). Navigate to: Org>Administrative Groups>Site>Servers>"Server Name". Right click on your server and click "Properties". On the General tab uncheck "Enable Message Tracking".
Logs should stop generating. Still doesn't explain why they were in the first place....
