Remove public folders
My Exchange enviroment is setup as such, Ex2003 that has all users on it and public folders, Ex2007 that has no users on it was used to replicate public folders, Ex2010 we are migrating to. My Ex2007 box was attached to a SAN which is not longer around. The public folders for Ex2007 were on that SAN. When I try and uninstall Ex2007 I am getting "Uninstall cannot continue. Database 'Public Folder Database': Exchange is unable to check the public folder replicas for MX\Second Storage Group\Public Folder Database". MoveAllReplicas.ps1 has was not ran on the Server before the SAN went away. How can I uninstall Exchange 2007 from my environment?Jason

Here's what I would do. 1. Run Move-DatabasePath with the -ConfigurationOnly switch to move the location of the public store to your C: drive or some other drive and path. 2. Mount the database. 3. You might have to manually remove the system folders that might be created. 4. Remove the public folder database. Then you should be able to unisntall Exchange 2007.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

The database for 2007 is gone, went away when the SAN went away. The only place I have the database right now is on EX2003. Can I use that DB, if I can how do I do it? Jason

So when you had the PF database on your SAN were you not backing up that database?

The database still exists in Active Directory. Follow the steps I gave you.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Yes there is a backup but I would need to look back 2-3 years to find it. Ed, Not sure what you mean the database still exists in Active Directory? Can you elaborate please? I know there are values in AD that point to it but not sure what you mean by "still exists in Active Directory" Thank youJason

When you enter: Get-PublicFolderDatabase do you see the database listed? If you follow the steps I gave you, you can cleanly remove it and the server.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Hi jasonleh, Could you please try ED’s solution? I think it will work. You could follow this article to move database path. I have moved the database using the move-databasepath with the config only switch. I am waiting on the backup to arrive. I hope this works. Thank you! Jason

You don't need to restore from a backup if all you want to do is remove the server. Just follow the steps I gave you. I didn't say anything about any backup.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

I have nothing to mount to, there is no edb file. When I try and mount the database I am getting an error Exchange is unable to mount the database that you specified. Specified database MX\Second Stroage Group\Public Folder Database; Error code: MapiExceptionCallFailed; Unable to mount database (HR=0x80004005, ec=-1023) Jason

Did you run Move-DatabasePath on the database with the -ConfigurationOnly switch, specifying a location that exists on your server? Remember that in Exchange 2007 you have to also run Move-StorageGroupPath also with the -ConfigurationOnly switch.
