Remove user inbound email but leave account
One of our team passed away recently and we would like to remove his emaile.g. abc@123xyz.com from service but still be able to access his email account through Outlook Web Access. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

You can remove his email address by removing Exchange Attributes (Right Click on his Account and click on Remove Exchange Attributes). Once you remove then it will become only AD account and it wont even appear in GAL as it has lost its Mail Capability. I dont think there is any possibility for your question.

Exchange version?I used to do this all the time;1) Change his SMTP addresses to something that doesn't exist, like abc@123xyz.local (IF you are really concerened about incoming mail).2) Hide the mailbox.3) Assuming Exchange 2000/2003, in either Outlook or OWA you can still open the mailbox via the fqdn of the user (As I recall, it was the fqdn)Karl

Radjr,There isnt any option to do what you want in either of Exchange versions AFAK. You can not hide the mailbox from GAL and then add it as an additional mailbox. However, you may want to change the SMTP address of the mailbox to something else and add it as an additional mailbox or disable the mailbox completely/delete it after backing up it into a PST. This PST may later be made into multiple copies and given to everyone in your team.MMilind Naphade | MCTS:M | http://www.msexchangegeek.com

I may be remembering Exchange 5.5, but I have verified that if you use the "legacyExchangeDN" in either Outlook 2007 or OWA against a hidden mailbox (Exchange 2007 SP1), it will resolve to the correct name.Try that.Karl

markmorow has a good link with information. You can also set the mailbox not to be reached by OWA.Take properties on mailbox and then use the mailbox features tab to disable OWAlasse at humandata dot se, http://anewmessagehasarrived.blogspot.com

Thanks. I will give this a try. Seems like there would be a way to do this as it is quite common.

Thanks. I really want to keep the mail box long term and just disable inbound email so that inbound email generates NDRs to the original sender. We still need to be able to get to the box through OWA or outlook. Seems that pulling the entry from the email properties tab and remove the 123@abcd.com would work.
