Removing EX2003 from server
Hi I am following document "KB83396 - How to remove Exchange Server 2003 from your computer" - to remove a decommissioned Exchange server. I am following the manual process. Question re the section titled "Remove the Exchange Server 2003 server from Active Directory" The Note state "This process removes all references to the server in AD". Does this mean it will be completely removed from AD or just the Exchange attributes ? We only want to remove Exchange from the server but it will continue to be used as a server on the domain. Thanks

Hi, If you uninstall Exchange from the server it will remove all Exchange references to the server from AD. It won't remove the server itself from AD Leif

Removing Exchange will remove it as an Exchange Server. It will continue to be a domain joined member server, until the day you decide to remove it. Hi Thanks for your responses. I realise that using add/remove programs will remove the Exchange components from AD as well but, as I said, I'm following the manual process to remove Exchange - i.e. deleting registry keys for services etc. I just want to confirm that removing the server in System Manager as stated in the document does NOT actually remove the server from AD as the title of the section in the document kind of suggests - "Remove the Exchange Server 2003 server from Active Directory". Plus the first paragraph states: "Note This procedure removes all references to the server in Active Directory" Thanks

This will not have a bearing on the server being a domain member or not. I hope that clarifies it for you - the only way it will be removed and no longer domain joined is if you 1. Remove the server from the domain (My Computer | Properties) 2. Delete the Computer account object in ADUC. Hope that helps, OliverOliver Moazzezi | Exchange MVP, MCSA:M, MCITP:Exchange 2010, BA (Hons) Anim | http://www.exchange2010.com | http://www.cobweb.com | http://twitter.com/OliverMoazzezi
