Removing Exchange 2003 question
I work in an environment where I have a primary domain which contains: - 1 exchange 2003 server - 1 exchange 2007 server(Replacement server for 2003) and a sub domain with: - 1 exchange 2003 server Now my problem is that I have gone through all the steps in removing anything related to the primary domains 2003 server, in relation to this article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb288905%28EXCHG.80,printer%29.aspx Before I actually uninstall exchange 2003 from my primary domain I notice that within Exchange System Manager for our 2003 server on our sub domain it still shows the one in which I would like removed. Now I don't believe this is unusual but my question is: Should I right click the server and select remove server. Or will this server entry in ESM be removed when I uninstall the software? Also does anyone have a better guide for my situation than the one I have been following? Many thanks,

The server entry will be removed once you properly uninstall Exchange server. Are you moving to Exchange 2007 only org? I mean are you planning to remove even the subdomain 2003 server? Thanks Bharani

Run the uninstall on the machine. Unless there's a problem that will cleanly remove the Exchange server from the AD and the machine. Removing the Exchange server from the ESM should only be done if the uninstall didn't (or cannot) complete the operation. And, even then, removing the server in that way won't cleanly remove the software or registry information from the machine.--- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Yes, un-installation will remove server from ESM. Please have a vallid binary of exchange 2003 as it will ask for some file when you start un-installation. http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Removing-First-Exchange-2003-Server-Part2.html Also you can un-install exchage 2003 manually if you face any issue to start from add/remove program. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833396 Anil

Thanks for the response Bharani, No I am keeping exchange 2003 in the sub domain. Though I am planning to possibly install exchange 2010 in the sub domain in a couple of months. Which will result in exchange 2007 in one and possibly 2010 or 2007 in the other.
