Removing exchange 2000 from 2003 environment
Hi, We have scenario where we use Exchange 2003. Before that we have had Exchange 2000 in use. The problem is that when we moved to Exchange 2003, the Exchange 2000 was never uninstalled, so it shows up in 2003 System Manager. The Exchange 2000 server has been shutted down at least a year ago. How can I remove exchange 2000 information from our AD without affecting current 2003 environment? I should remove this, because I can't prepare Legacy permissions for Exchange 2010 until Exchange 2000 information is removed from our AD. Regards, Jouko

Hi Anil, Thank you for your answer, but I'm not going to try start that server and remove installation from there. I'm not sure if it is even possible. So my goal is only to clean it from AD, that I can continue installation of Exchange 2010. I'm not able to find Exchange record below that path you provided. There is one record in following path: >CN=Configuration >CN=Services >CN=Microsoft Exchange >CN=Domain >CN=Administrative Groups >CN=first administrative group >CN=Servers And below there is a record of Exchange 2000 server. Should I delete that? I noticed that there is also possibility to "Remove Server" in Exchange 2003 System Manager. Does that remove all the exchange 2000 information from AD, without interfering Exchange 2003? Regards, Jouko

Hi Jouko, Please first try to remove server in the ESM. "To remove the server from Active Directory, start Exchange System Manager and select the server object. Right-click the object, click All Tasks, and then click Remove Server. This will remove all references to the server in Active Directory, and remove the mailbox-enabling attributes from all Active Directory users with mailboxes on the removed server." If it doesn't work, please backup the AD first, then delete the object using ADSIEDIT.MSC. Hi Frank, That helped. I was now able delete it, and even run prepareLegacyExchangepermissions for Exchange 2010. Thank you both for your assistant. Regards, Jouko
