What is the role this server has, like mailbox server or FE server ?. If this is mailbox sevrer then you can move mailbox's to other server and then remove it. Later you can build same name into new H/W. I would not recommend you to remove it and restore from backup also avoide /DisasterRecovery swicth You must read this !
