Restoring data from brick level backup
Hi
I have a backup tape from a few years back that contains brick level backups of various user mailboxes. I have a user, User1, who needs his mailbox restored from this tape. Back then, we were running Exchange 2000. We are now running a pure Exchange 2007 environment and the original server the user's mailbox was on has long gone.
I've set up a backup server and cataloged the tape.
Does anyone know how I can know restore the data to a PST or even restore individial items?
Thanks in advance!

You might contact the vendor of the backup software that
created the tape. Another option might be OnTrack Power Controls; you
might check whether they can read your tape's format.-- Ed

Hi,
You need to install a new Windows Server, create a new forest, run setup/forestprep, install Exchange System Tools on the server.
Then use the ESM create a new Admin Group with the original name, install Exchange 2000 server.
Rename storage group and store objects to original names. Then dismount store and set overwrite check box.
Peform a database restore. Next create non-mailbox enabled user, reconnect mailbox to this user. After that, please log in to the mailbox and extract the data.
Thanks

Hey Allen
Thanks...so the fact that we had a brick level backup here as well doesn't help avoid the new forest scenario?
Thank you.
