Hello, I am fine at restoring our Exchnage 2003 databases and mailboxes via GRT using Symantec's Backup Exec 12.5, however I have an old database and mailbox to restore into our old Exchange 2003 server that had a different administrative group and company name, how can I do this as the current Exchange 2003 is different? Do I need to build another Exchange server that is structured like the old server? Thanks

Another option would be to restore the Database to an alternate location on disk and then use a 3rd party product like Lucid8's DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp that can open offline databases so that you can then browse, search, export to PST, MSG and XML or recover mailboxes and granular data directly to the original or alternate server/mailboxTroy Werelius www.Lucid8.com

Yes create a recover server. The org name and admin group name must be the same as well as other parameters. There are some other issues you need to be aware of as if your Exchange org was once a 5.5 environment. 1. Create new forest new domain name, give new hostname 2. Install AD 3. Install Exchange, make sure your Exchange org name is the same as your production org name 4. Make sure servers are patched exactly the same or mounting will fail. 4. Make sure all DB locations, log path partions are the same. If your 2003 was a product of a 5.5 migration, than mounting will fail because the legacydn of the restore server does not match the legacydn of the production server. Blog goes over.
