Restricting outside email

I was asked to restricting some of our exchange DG from receiving email from outside. I have enabled the Require that all sender are authenticated  but still receiving emails from outside.

Even I tried to restrict it to specific AD user but still receiving email from external address(Internal emails work as expected).

Do you know what is the issue. can guys help us with this?  not sure if we have wrong configuration in our receive connectors

Hi vala,

Thank you for your question.

We could create transport rule by the following command to check if it work:

New-Transportrule -name 'Restricting DG receive emails from outside' -FromScope 'NotinOrganization'-SentToMemberOf 'DG@contoso.com' -DeleteMessage $true Priority 0

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Best Regard,

Jim

Also if you have an filtering gateway for incoming messages from internet you can try to set a rule or remove the DL from the list so that you dont get the messages delivered to the DL

I found out that this  problem  is related to migrating DGs from old version of exchange to new version.  we migrated from 2003 to 2010 exchange.

The option I am trying to use was not included in 2003 so this setting didnt carry over to 2010.   Let me know if you have any solution for this.

I should be on the DG membership itself - it has nothing to do with receive connector. I will look into my Exchange 2013 and update you but it should work if you restrict the users on DG level.
