Retention Policy and S.I.R
I have applied a retention policy with "permanently delete mail older than 365days" to all folders and the policy is doing its job except it is moving all the old mail to "Recover Deleted Items > Purges" dumpster. I DO have S.I.R enabled and my Deletion Item Retention is 365 days. I thought S.I.R prevents only users from permanently delete and does not prevent retention policies from permanently deleting the mail (bypassing dumpster). So by the way things are working: 1. Mail will be moved to "Purges" folder after one year as S.I.R is enabled. 2. The mail stays there for another one year until their time expires. Two years in total. Can anyone tell me if I am thinking right here?

Hi If single item recovery is enabled for the mailbox, permanently deleted items are retained in the Recoverable Items folder until the deleted item retention period for the mailbox database (or the deleted item retention period for the mailbox, if specified) is reached. So if the deleted item retention period for the mailbox is still one year, there will be 2 years total You can refer to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd297955.aspx CheersZi Feng TechNet Community Support
