Retention Policy time is reset on deleted items when moving a mailbox from exchange 2007 to exchange 2010
Background: I use a retention policy to delete items older than 30 days in the deleted items folder. Problem: When I move a mailbox from 2007 to 2010 each items purge date gets reset to 30 days. Why would the retention time basically be reset to allow 30 days, and why would it not delete a message older than 30 days? More Info: In 2007 I used a Managed Folder Mailbox Policy with the following settings. MessageClassDisplayName : All Mailbox Content MessageClass : * Description : Managed Content Settings RetentionEnabled : True RetentionAction : DeleteAndAllowRecovery AgeLimitForRetention : 30.00:00:00 TriggerForRetention : WhenMoved MessageFormatForJournaling : UseTnef JournalingEnabled : False ManagedFolder : Deleted Items ManagedFolderName : Deleted Items ExchangeVersion : 0.1 (8.0.535.0) Name : Delete - DeletedItemsOlderThan30Days Identity : Delete - DeletedItemsOlderThan30Days ObjectClass : {top, msExchELCContentSettings} WhenChanged : 11/17/2007 3:57:48 PM WhenCreated : 8/24/2007 10:51:36 AM IsValid : True In 2010 I am using a Retention Policy with the following settings. So, the purge time of all items has been changed to the same (30 days) for the moved mailbox, right? Does it a mixed environment in one forest? Please use MFCMAPI to check the “PR_MESSAGE_DELIVERY_TIME” and “PR_CREATION_TIME” properties on the items, see if they have been affected by the movement Resources: How Retention Age is CalculatedJames Luo TechNet Subscriber Support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx) If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com

Yes, it reset the age, but i am living with it. It just means I have to wait for the purging to take place.
