Retiring OWA Server (2003)
Hello,
We have 2 OWA servers (Windows 2003 with Exchange 2003 sp2) that has been shutdown over 2 years. They had been served as front-end exchange servers. I am looking to pull them out of the rack soon. The two servers still exist in ESM.
Our current environment still consist of one OWA servers and four back-end servers all consisting of 2003 Exchange with sp2.
What is the best way to remove the two servers? Do I need to power them on again (not sure if I want to, don't know whats going to happen)? I am able to right click on the servers from ESM and see the delete choice, but didn't proceed.
TIA,
tntrac

Hi,
The recommended way of removing them would be to turn the servers on and uninstall Exchange.
If you don't want to do that you can delete the servers from the ESM.

Thank you. We probably don't want to turn them on. Hopefully it would allow me to delete from the ESM. Right clicking to see the available options took a while since its trying to retrieve information from a server that is no longer online.
Anywhere else besides the ESM & AD to delete?

Hi,
Uninstalling Exchange would be a better method.
If you do not use that two Exchange anymore, then you can select to remove from Exchange System Manager.

Hi,
If you remove the servers using ESm they will be removed from AD (and that should be it)

Thank you all. Years ago, I remember trying to remove an Exchange 2003 (backend). It wouldn't allow us since we had some inactive mailboxes, etc.

Hi,
How about to uninstall the Exchange Servers?
If that do not help, also these inactive mailbox will not be used anymore, then we may have to remove the Exchange Server from ADSIedit.Xiu Zhang
