Retrieve mails from empty distribution list in exchange 2003
Hi, I have exchange 2003; I set up a distribution list which receives e-mails from a web form on our website. Unfortunately the only member of the group has left the company and was therefore removed from all groups. Now I have a months worth of e-mails I cant get to. I have checked the Message Tracking Centre and all the mails have stopped at; Message Submitted to Categorizer How do I retrieve these mails as I have added members to the group and they are only receiving new mails sent to that address? Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, you don't - at least not as far as I am aware. A distribution list with no members is what many refer to as a Black-Hole address. If Exchange receives a message to a DL which doesn't have any members, it simply discards it. I don't believe that the message is put into the Badmail directory either. If you think about it for a few minutes, you'll realize that Exchange is doing it's job. When a message arrives destined for a DL, the Categorizer's job is to look up the destination address, and to expand it for delivery. If there are no local recipients, Exchange has no where to deliver that message to. A DL cannot "store" messages, so Exchange can't do anything more with it. Mark this down as one of those things you need to remember in the future. Ben
