Route to public folders
Hi have several mail enabled public folders
I see them in the GAL but all the emails sent to the folders from internal or external donnt make it to the folders and I get this error
Ensure that a valid route exists to each recipient listed.
Can you tell me how to resolve this?
Thanks

Do you have Exchange 2003 or earlier versions installed in your Exchange 2007 enviroment? I'm thinking routing group connector...

Clarify: All mails sent to mail-enabled public folder are unable to receive on public folder, right?
Collect info:
1. Which version of exchange do you use, 2003 or 2007?
2. Please describe your environment. Is it a 2003/2007 mixed environment?
3. Does the symptom only happen on one public folder server, or all public folder servers?
Troubleshooting:
1. Reproduce issue, then go to Queue viewer, check which queue the mail stuck into
2. Launch EXTRA, check mail flow
Notes: EXTRA v1.1 for 2003, Mail Flow Troubleshooting in EMC for 2007
3. Please check if Exchange Domain Server group has missed from ACL of the public folder servers properties
Launch ASDIEdit.msc->locate public folder server name item from Configuration container->right-click it and choose properties->Security tab

Hi james
I only have 1 new install of exchange 2007 version 08.01.0291.001
It is the same for all public folders.
This is what the queue viewer reports

After review the report, we may need to perform the following troubleshooting:
1. Checked the permissions on the affected public folder and post here
Cmdlet: Get-PublicFolderClientPermission "\PublicFolderName" | fl
2. Test if you can drag and drop items into affected public folder. If you cant, is there any error info occurred?
3. Can you create items in affected public folder directly?
4. Check public folder by using PFDavAdmin
a. Right-click root->select Check DACL state->click OK and check
b. Check parent folders permission of affected public folder
5. Go to ADSIEditor, check msExchOwningPFTreeBL attribute, it shall match with It shall match with Distinguished Name column of Public Folders under Folder Hierarchies
a. Start->Run->ADSIEdit.msc
b. Expand Configuration->CN= Configuration,DC=DomainName,DC=Com->CN=Services->CN=Microsoft Exchange->CN=OrgName->CN=Exchange Administrative Group (xxx)->CN=Folder Hierarchies->double-click Public Folders, check msExchOwningPFTreeBL
Notes: msExchOwningPFTreeBL default format: {CN=Public Folders,CN=Folder Hierarchies,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=OrgName,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=DomainName,DC=com}

Hi, fghd:
So we see the cause. There is no Folder Hierarchies container below the Administrative Group folder. We need to create a new Folder Hierarchies container
a. Launch ADSIEditor, and go to Administrative Group that you would like to create the Folder Hierarchies container
b. Right-click Administrative Group->new->object
c. Select Class = msExchContainer->next
d. Fill Value = Folder Hierarchies
e. Finish
We dont need to create a new CN=Public folders in Folder Hierarchies container, just go to public store container in ADSIEditor. Checking its msExchPFOwningTree attribute on the store, we will see that the public folder store is associated to the Public Folder tree CN=Public folders. Follow that tree, find the location of CN=Public folders, and then right-click it, choose Move to the Folder Hierarchies container
After you done it, confirmed that the public folder store now has the msExchOwningPFTree value same as Distinguished Name of the CN=Public folders in the Folder Hierarchies container
Then route to public folder will work again

Hi
I have the exact same issue as what was discussed here with a clean install of Exchange 2007 SP1.
I have the following in my org.
2 x86 Windows 2003 SP2 R2 - DC's
1 x86 Windows 2003 SP2 R2 - BES
1 x64 Windows 2003 SP2 R2 - Exchange 2007 SP1
I have mail enabled public folders on the exchange box, but any mail sent to the associated email address is held in an "unreachable domain" queue for a day or so, then returned with an NDR. The reason for it being held is:
"#< #4.4.7 smtp;550 4.4.7 QUEUE.Expired; message expired in unreachable destination queue. Reason: There is currently no route to the mailbox database> #SMTP#"
I went through and checked the points you mentioned above with ADSIedit and I'm alittle confused. My ADSIedit is missing a few objects that you mentioned.
5. Go to ADSIEditor, check msExchOwningPFTreeBL attribute, it shall match with It shall match with Distinguished Name column of Public Folders under Folder Hierarchies
a. Start->Run->ADSIEdit.msc
b. Expand Configuration->CN= Configuration,DC=DomainName,DC=Com->CN=Services->CN=Microsoft Exchange->CN=OrgName->CN=Exchange Administrative Group (xxx)->CN=Folder Hierarchies->double-click Public Folders, check msExchOwningPFTreeBL
Notes: msExchOwningPFTreeBL default format: {CN=Public Folders,CN=Folder Hierarchies,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=OrgName,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=DomainName,DC=com}
I've created the Folder Hierarchies object, but when I attempt to locate the CN=Public Folders object to move it, I can't. I don't know if I'm looking in the correct location but I am looking at Configuration->CN= Configuration,DC=DomainName,DC=Com->CN=Services->CN=Microsoft Exchange->CN=OrgName->CN=Exchange Administrative Group (xxx)->"CN=EXCHANGE"->"CN=InformationStore"->"CN=Public Folder Storage Group"
In this folder is a single class object "CN=Public folder Database" Class=msExchPublicMDB
I don't know where the object is that I need to move to the Folder Hierarchies
Now I don't know if this will be a factor or not, but there was an existing Exchange 2003 messaging infrastructure in place that was removed prior to this 2007 server. Normally you would setup the servers side by side and have them co-exist for a bit, then decommission the 2003 servers. Unfortunately that wasn't an option. All uninstall operations went smoothe with no errors, and the schema update also had no errors.

Hi,
I have the same Issue. We migrated from Ex2003 to Ex2007 SP2, coexist for a light period of time, and then uninstall the Exchange and format the servers.
Now, the emails sent to Public Folders get stuck on the mail queue as Unreacheble.
I've tried to create a "Folders Hierarchies" object and move the Public Folder object on it (as told before), but I can't move it.
If I create a Public Folder object, the Public Folder disapair from the OWA and Outlook.
I have seen that I have some information in my AD about the Exchange 2003. Is it safe to erase it? May be this should work.
Is there any other solution?

Ups! I was doing it wrong,
I was trying to move and incorrect PF object. Yesterday I found the correct one, hanging under:
"CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=DOMAIN,DC=COM"
move it to the Folders Hierarchies I have created, and magically the PF start receiving mails.
Thanks!
