Routing Group Master - Do i need to back it up?
We have numerous bridgeheads of which we have a routing group master. Id like to understand the importance of backing this server up? All i can see is that if we are making routing changes we may want to back it up monthly for example. Any other reasons? If so to what level - system state, OS, mail queue etc In a dr instance we simply would assign the role to another bridgehead.

What version of Exchange? I'm assuming 2003. A routing group master doesn't need any special treatment. Any server can be designated the routing group master at any time. Some organizations think that they can restore faster if they back up non-mailbox-non-public-folder servers, but I think it's probably just as fast to reinstall Exchange in disaster recovery mode on a new server. -- Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems." . Agree with ED ! YOu can enable RG master to any server in same RG, This is nothing but you have to right clcik and select "Routing Group Master". Treat Bridge Head server as HUB sevrer which is responsible for mail routing. if you wish you can take system backup of BH servers.Anil

Appreciated! - i thought the same. Quicker to do a restore from AD then from backup and easy to promote another server to RGmaster. Thanks again.
