Rule to move email addressed to SMTP alias address to folder in Outlook
Exchange 2007 / Outlook 2003I have an AD account that has a number of alias email addresses assigned to the account. For example, custserv@domain.com, customerservice@domain.com, etc.I want to create a rule so that when email is addressed to a specific address, such ascustserv@domain.com, that email is moved to a folder contained within Outlook. I was hoping to create a server-side rule to meet the stated objective, but so far I have not been able to figure out how to do that. It does appear to be possible viaa client-side rule, but I was hoping to avoid that.Anyone know if this is possible? TIA

I had a similar request a while back and ultimately chose another direction because of the complexity involved. What I found however is that you can possibly find this with 3rd party software, or do something custom on your own: How to: Create a Rule to Move Specific E-mails to a Folder http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb206765.aspx RuleConditions.ToOrCc Property http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb176162.aspxMoveOrCopyRuleAction Object http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb208412.aspx Mike Crowley A+, Network+, Security+, MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator

Mike,Thanks for your input and the links.Out of curiousity, what 3rd party utility did you end up going with, and are you happy with the solution?Martin

It was a conversation with a customer. I dont think they used anything. They just gave up on the idea. Mike Crowley A+, Network+, Security+, MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator

Sorry I dont have any more information. Just thinking out loud but: consider making a server-side rule that moves items to specific folders based in it coming through a specific DL. This is definitly a server-side rule. then move the aliases up to different DLs and make the user a member of all of them. you can hide the DLs from the GAL if necessary. There might be better ways to do that with a different rule. see here for ideas: http://www.slipstick.com/rules/serverbased.htm Mike Crowley A+, Network+, Security+, MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator

Mike,I appreciate your input. I really thought this would be a quick task when it was requested. Turns out it isn't so straightforward after all. I will have a look at thde slipstick link and perhaps that will lead to a solution. The DL option may also work. I will give you an update after I figure something out. Thanks
