Running encrypted Outlook2k3 clients on Loadgen
Hi, It looks like Loadgen sends unencrypted MAPI traffic to Exchange from Outlook 2003 clients. Is there a way to configureit to encrypt MAPI traffic? Also, canLoadgen be configured for sendng UNencrypted traffic from Outlook 2007 clients? On page 30 LoadGen.doc states: "There is currently no parameter available to disable MAPI encryption." But on page 83 EncryptedPort tag, which can be either true or false,is described. What kind of encryption is triggered by this tag? Thank you.

Hi, Under default circumstances, there is no encryption on the MAPI/RPC transports. Protocol encryption is generally handled by the Operating System in the form of IPSEC, VPN, or RPC over HTTPS configurations if so desired. There is also the option in the MAPI profile configuration of the Security tab to "Encrypt data between Microsoft Office Outlook and Microsoft Exchange Server. Additionally, if security is a concern with e-mail, there is another option of using S/MIME type security on e-mails in the Outlook client. Thanks Allen

Allen, Thank you for your reply, but my question is specifically about configuration of Exchange Load Generator (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=DDEC1642-F6E3-4D66-A82F-8D3062C6FA98&displaylang=en). Thank you, -Leon.

Hi, Please understand that the EncryptedPort is not represented MAPI protocol but POP3, IMAP, etc. For the MAPI client, the communication is encrypted and currently no parameter available to disable it as the document states. Thanks Allen

Hi Allen, Is there another good source of info about Loadgen config tags in addition to Loadgen.doc? Also, I double checked and can see now that Outlook2k3 simulated MAPI traffic is encrypted too. --Leon.

Hi, After researched on the internal database, I didn't find another instruction about Loadgen. Thank you for your understanding. Regarding this issue, the support that I provided was limited, I'd like to recommend you to contact Microsoft Customer Support Service for assistance so that this problem can be resolved efficiently.
