SBS Migration Prep (Exchange issue?)
Last night we ran the Migration Prep tool from the SBS 2008 Disk on our SBS 2003 Server. Everything looks fine in the log files. However We ran the Exchange 2007 Readiness scan from the Exchange BPA and it told us: "Active Directory Schema upgrade required The Active Directory schema will need to be upgraded (via the /PrepareSchema switch og Exchange Server 2007 setup) before Exchange 2007 servers can be installed into the organization." Is this something we need to be concerned with, and has anyone ever run into anything like this before? Is it safe to continue to the actual Migration install?

Looks like you do have SBS2003 domain. in order to introduce exchange 2007 in 2003 domain. the domain's schema has to be prepared. See step by step article http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive/2008/01/10/exchange-2007-in-an-sbs-2003-environment.aspx http://www.exchangeinbox.com/article.aspx?i=85&t=5 http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/exchange-server-2007/migration-deployment/exchange-2007-install-configuration-command-line-part1.html

We did run the Migration Prep tool which raised the AD Schema per the Migration Instructions http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc527467%28WS.10%29.aspx However after rebooting we are still seeing the: "Active Directory Schema upgrade required The Active Directory schema will need to be upgraded (via the /PrepareSchema switch og Exchange Server 2007 setup) before Exchange 2007 servers can be installed into the organization." when we run the Exchange BPA 2007 readiness check. My question is did we not already upgrade the schema with the Migration Tool and if we did is it safe to ignore this message from the Exchange BPA?

I believe Vinod's comments are not respective of the fact you are going to another SBS environment. The Migration Preperation Tool addresses the necessary items called out in his provided links.Did you ensure your Exchange 2003 server was set to Native Mode? This is a different mode than the active directory functional levels. (page 18) If not, you need to adjust this and possibly re-run the Prep Tool.

We did make sure that Exchange was in native mode before and after we ran the Migration Prep tool. What else can we check to make sure we are ok before we proceed with the Migration install?

rangeUpper value is 6870 Since this value corresponds with Exchange 2003 acording to the link provided, does this mean we need to re-run the SBS 2008 Migration Prep tool as it didn't finish correctly, or is this step something that takes place during the actual Migration install of SBS 2008?
