SMTP Address changed automatically
Hi all,
I have encountered a peculiar issue. The environment has Exc-2003 sp2 and Client is Outlook 2000 sp3.
One user from outside domain has sent mail to a number of users in my internal domain. All of them have received that mail. Only two users have their address listed as "A BCDE" (Shown in quotes) as SMTP address. They exist in the organisation and in GAL. When i type in their names, the names are resolved and all the outlook properties are populated.
But not in that particular mail. I have checked with the outside sender and he is populating the fields properly. A repeated mail has also resulted in the same way. Also, when those two users want to Reply to All, and send their replies, they receive NDR with SMTP error 5.1.1 as if their account does not exist. I dont know how those quotes are getting generatedfor those two users resulting in bad address and at the same time the mail is delivered to their mail boxes.
Beats me. Any replies will be helpful

Dear customer:
In order to better troubleshoot the issue, I want to confirm the following information with you:
1. Did the two problematic users received the e-mail that from the user outside your domain?
2. When did you find this problem? Had there any change been made to Exchange/AD before you saw the problem?
3. From your description, when those two users want to Reply to All, and send their replies, they receive NDR with SMTP error 5.1.1 as if their account does not exist. Please send the screenshot of it to v-rocwan@microsoft.com.
4. Did you move the two users mailboxes recently?
5. What is the recipient policy used by this sample user? Could you capture a screen shot as well for your recipient policy's E-mail Addresses tab (from Exchange System Manager).
6. Check whether the Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object check box is selected on the Active Directory organizational unit that the accounts reside in:
a) In Active Directory Users and Computers on the View menu, click Advanced Features.
b) Right-click the container or organizational unit that contains the users who are experiencing the problem, and then click Properties.
c) On the Security tab, verify that the Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object check box is selected. This option adds Exchange Enterprise Servers to the list of accounts that have rights to that object.
d) Verify that this box is selected at the container level, and also in the user properties. To select the properties for individual users, right-click the user, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.
e) Please send the screenshot of them to v-rocwan@microsoft.com.
7. Please use ldifde command line to export the users AD attributes, to do so,
1). On the Exchange server, open a command line window
2). Type the following command:
ldifde -s <GC server Name> -r "sAMAccountName=<users logon name>" -f "c:\cht.txt"
8. Send the output txt file to me for analyze.
Thanks for your time and cooperation. Please feel free to contact me if theres anything unclear. Im glad to be of assistance.

Thanks Rock for responding.
Sorry for the delayed response asI was away for a while. The answers to your questions are:
Did the two problematic users received the e-mail that from the user outside your domain?
Yes thethe mail senderis an outside vendor.
When did you find this problem? Had there any change been made to Exchange/AD before you saw the problem?
The users reported this issue last month, however, they informed that it is going on since January.
From your description, when those two users want to Reply to All, and send their replies, they receive NDR with SMTP error 5.1.1 as if their account does not exist. Please send the screenshot of it to v-rocwan@microsoft.com
Screenshot sent
Did you move the two users mailboxes recently?
No
What is the recipient policy used by this sample user? Could you capture a screen shot as well for your recipient policy's E-mail Addresses tab (from Exchange System Manager).
No issue with recipient policy as those users interact with 100 different vendors and only with this particular vendor address, the issue arises.
Check whether the Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object check box is selected on the Active Directory organizational unit that the accounts reside in
Yes it is. And if AD attributes were an issue, the user would face the issue with all the vendors and not with this particular vendor.
Thanks for looking into this, I am really in a Fix... never seen such thing
