SMTP Authentication Problem
Hi All
I want to restrict the access to my SMTP Server, and not allow anybody to relay through it.
To achieve that I made the following configuration:
System Manager - My Exchange Server - Protocols - SMTP Server Properties- and then to the Access Tab, and I click authentication.
I removed the check on Anonymous access and check Basic Authentication.
That stopped all relay that can be made using my SMTP Server, even when I provide a user name and password to the System who needs to relay through my Server.
In the Connection tab, I didn't restrict any IP Address.
Please help

Ok, there is a difference between anonymous relay and anonymous access. If this is an internet facing bridgehead, you have to allow anonymous access.
What do you have for relay restrictions?

Hi All
I worked as following:
1. Go to Access – Authentication – Remove the Check on Anonymous access and Basic authentication.
2. Go To users, and make a check on relay permissions for authenticated users.
3. Go To relay – Make a check on Allow authenticated users to relay.
I tried the WSUS to send an alert, and I used the Administrator username and password, but the WSUS gave me an error "User doesn't have permission to submit mail to this server, client was not authenticated".
I activated advanced logging, and I saw the following error in the event viewer "The TCP Client ### didn't authenticate before attempting to send mail –access was denied).
Could you please help

Hi,
Please try to enable Basic Authentication to check this issue.
Thanks
