Yes this is a very common requirement and is described in detail here:Microsoft Transporter Suite.docpage 34http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=72A947D9-E75F-4EAE-B153-E0B4A16442D9&displaylang=en Mike Crowley: MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator

Hi LRMCP, Would you please describe your requirement more detailed? In general, if two email systems shared a same SMTP Namespace, you can configure the external MX record point to Exchange Server. Then, configure the SMTP domain as internal relay domain. Then, create a Send Connector with shared SMTP Namespace as its Address Space to forward message to Lotus Domino mail server. By using the method, the message will be delivered to Exchange Server firstly, Exchange Server will attempt to resolve Recipient. If the recipient can be resolved, it will deliver to local mailbox on Exchange 2007 server. If the recipient cannot be resolved, the message will be delivered according to your Send Connector setting. For more information regarding Internal Replay domain, you can refer to following article: Managing Accepted Domains http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124423.aspx Mike

Hi Mike! Thank you for the reply. I understand the Managing Accepted Domains in Exchange 2007, however doing that so might encounter a downtime issue especially on the MX propagation for the Exchange 2007. The requirements goes like this: Currently the company/client has existing mail system running on Domino which is authoritative for their current SMTP Domain, i'm looking for a way that the Domino will forward the (incoming mail) query to Exchange 2007. I know that Exchange 2007 can be configured as external / internal mail relay domain to the other mail system, what the client want is that they wanted that the Domino SMTP Domain decommissioning will be on the later part of the project. Example; abc.com, (mx=10 for domino), (mx=20 for exchange 2007), once all users are already in the Exchange Org., they will de-commission the MX=10 for Domino. Let me know if this is possible. Thanks and regards, LRMCP

Hi LRMCP, From your description, I understand that the inbound mail message will firstly go to Domino mail server. Once the Domino is decommissioned, you will remove the MX record for domino on public DNS server. If I am off base, please let me know. Yes, I think it is a possible solution. Before the Domino is decommissioned, the message will always be submitted to Domino server. After the Domino is decommissioned, the remote server will firstly attempt to connect to Domino Server but fail, it should failover to Exchange Server automatically. After the MX record for domino server is removed, the message will be submitted to Exchange Server directly I think the current issue is whether we can configure the Domino server to forward message which recipient cannot be resolved to the Exchange Server. Hi Mike! Thank you for your reply and explanation. Yes,the issue is actually if i can configure the Domino Server to forward/reroute the message to exchange and if somebody has done this approach on their migration project from Domino to Exchange 2007. Regards, LRMCP

Hi LRMCP, I think that it is a Domino Server related issue rather than Exchange server. I suggest you post your question in Domino forum regarding the issue. Mike

Hi LRMCP,Please let me know how you managed to configure this scenario, without Transporter Suite!I have the exact same scenario. were Domino is the authoritative mail system, that should route mail to the Exchange 2007 system.Kind regards//Algot

The transporter suite has nothing to do with mail flow. It is a tool you can use to migrate mailbox content to exchange. The above mentioned document is called something like "transporter suite" but it just has instructions for configuring a shared smtp namespace with domino. This is pretty straight forward advice...
