SMTP email address?
Hello, I use Exchange 2007. And I would need some clarification on the primary SMTP. At the user creation, the field email address is filled out on the Active Directory and I was wondering if that field was considered as the primary SMTP address for Exchange? Because when a new user is created on the AD, I then create the user on EMC and I see the primary email address matching with the email address filed from the AD.. Another thing is that after I have created the user, the email address has been changed on the AD (for some reason) and it has not on the Exchange side. I was wondering why? (btw, the emailaddresspolicyenabled = true). Thanks to all in advance. Graig

Hi, Email stamping all depends on recipient policy & it will apply the changed according to it for every user, so if you want to change the primary email address change the same in recipient policy. And for any new user if you see that is due till that time the recipient policy will not be stamped. DO let us know if some more explanation is required.Ripu Daman Mina | MCSE 2003 & MCSA Messaging

So as far as I understand, having the emailaddress filed filled out in the AD or not will not define the primary SMTP address for Exchange. AM I correct?

That is correct. Exchange will look for the email address in the proxyaddresses/emailaddresses that has a prefix string of "SMTP". The primary will have the prefix string in upper case, and secondaries will have it in lower case. I have found that not having the AD email address the same as the primary smtp address in the proxyaddresses/emailaddresses interferes with that user showing up in the GAL.[string](0..33|%{[char][int](46+("686552495351636652556262185355647068516270555358646562655775 0645570").substring(($_*2),2))})-replace " "
