SMTP name for exchangeserver
I have an exchange 2003 running on a machine named NEFMPC. We have a domain nefmmw.com. Now I want to use the smtp on another application. What smtp address (name) should I use? In other words, with the information I have provided, what is the smtp that exchange uses to send and receive mails?

Are you planning to send an email from your internal application? Then you can use your Exchange server as the SMTP address.

When a user sends e-mail the "From:" address is the primary SMTP proxyaddress assigned to that user. When Exchange opens a SMTP session with a SMTP server the value itsends in the HELO or EHLO command is its FQDN, which would besomething like "NEFMPC.domain.tld".When e-mail is sent to someone in your organization it's usually sentto the same primary proxy address assigned to a user.---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP---

How do you route your exchange email? Your Exchange server can act as an SMTP server.

Yes normally host name of the exchange server is set as smtp server name so in your case you may use NEFMPC.nefmmw.com as your smtp server name. Laeeq Qazi|Team Lead(Exchange + Sharepoint + BES + DynamicsCRM)

I still don't know what it is you're asking about.A server would have a FQDN (full qualified domain name), not a "SMTPaddress". Your SMTP server would send that FQDN in the HELO or EHLOcommand when it initiates a session with another SMTP server.A user will have an e-mail address. The e-mail address assigned to auser is found in the Recipient Policy that applies to that user. Can you clarify your question with some specifics?---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP---
