SMTP routing question
Hi all I'm looking for some advice/guidance. To give an overview we are running Exchange 2007 and have 2 Edge servers, 2 Hub servers, 1 clustered (2 node) mailbox server. As well as receiving mail through the edge servers we use it internally as an SMTP server. The question I have is as follows. I want to be able to send mail from a non-exchange internal server using our edge servers as smtp, also using a specific domain of fax.ourdomain.com and then that should be delivered to a specific IP address. We can get this but working OK but the catch seems to be that we can't have this being accessible from any external source. If we remove the accepted domain then it doesn't work externally - that's great, but it also then doesn't work internally either which would make sense. Any suggestions how I can go about this? I realise it may not be clear to all but let me know if you need a further explanation. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Add an IP address to the server and create a new receive connector bound to that IP address. Block that IP address from inbound SMTP using your firewall, and/or restrict the IP addresses that can connect to the receive connector.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Hi Petesbeat, Any update for your issue? Per your description, you want to use the edge server relay the email for the non-exchange internal server, right? I want to verify that where the email would be relay, internal or external? And I am puzzled your referred "We can get this but working OK but the catch seems to be that we can't have this being accessible from any external source. " Do you mean you could achieve the relay prupose, but external domain could not send email to the specific domain? Could you plese confirm those, and we could give you more suggestion. Regards! Gavin
