Saving Email Body Contents in Exchange
Hi all, Is there any way to save the body of an email as plain text within Exchange 2007 for a users mailbox for email received from a specific sender (similar to being able to do a SaveAs,"",olTXT in Outlook VBA. Thanks Tom

You can configure the mailbox's POP3/IMAP settings so that Exchange serves plain text only, regardless of the format of messages in the mailbox.Do this way
Expand 'Server Configuration'
Expand 'Client Access'
Select the server that you want to manage, then the 'POP3 and IMAP' tab
Get the properties of the appropriate connector and examine the 'Retrieval Settings' tab. The MIME format for the connector in question can be seen/changed in the 'Message MIME format' drop-down box at the top of this box.
A similar thing can be done for individual mailboxes by getting the properties of the mailbox and looking at the 'Mailbox Features' tab.See the microsoft's document on this her http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997869.aspxregards from www.windowsadmin.infoManuPhilip

ManU I appreciate the response. However I'd like to be able to do it without actually using a separate client to retrieve the email (if possible), i.e. Exchange automatically saves the body of the email to a text file on the server itself (or networked drive) as its received. thanks Tom

Hi,By default, Exchange stores the message in MAPI format which is controlled by the Store Driver. That could not be changed. To change the message body to Plain Text, this is can only be performed on the client.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232174.aspxThanksAllen

Allen, I appreciate the response. Given that you can use an IMAP/POP3 service though there must be a mechanism for the conversion to take place within Exchange. I can't see any sensible reason you wouldn't be able to do what I suggest inside Exchange? It seems very bizarre that something so trivial can't be done. Cheers Tom

Hi,In Exchange 2007, the Store driver is responsible forchanging the message from MAPI to MIME (MIME to MAPI).The message is transmitted in the tranport phaseby using MIME format. When coming into the mailbox, the message is changed to MAPI. The Plain Text and HTML are only theproperty of the MAPI which are stored in the message. The Plain Text is stored as a property 0x1000000A. The HTML is stored as a property as PR_HTML. You can see the property by using MFCMAPI.ThanksAllen
