Sending mail as an alert when Exchange services is not runing might not be a good idea. Mail may not be delivered while services is down. lasse at humandata dot se, http://anewmessagehasarrived.blogspot.com

Script in hte link you suggest seems OK. you just have to adjust it to your environment. Adjust liens for server names, "arrServers", to only show your two servers. further down you have to adjust AD path in the "Check TLOG Drive Util" section. Change the DC path of strLDAPOU varianble to your AD name. strLDAPOU = "CN=" & ucase(strComputer) _ & ",CN=Servers,CN=MyAdminGroup,CN=Administrative Groups,CN=MyCompanyName,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=yoursubdomain,DC=yourADdomain,DC=yourADdomain" Change the section where mail is generated. "FUN WITH FUNCTIONS" objMessage.Sender , objMessageTo and SMTPservername runt the script with an account having Exchange administrative permission lasse at humandata dot se, http://anewmessagehasarrived.blogspot.com

For monitoring your Exchange Server you can use a free tool from it4s, it is a cloud-base service that monitor a mailbox in your domain and if no response from it you'll be alerted to a pre-defined email and SMS, you just have to create a rule for that mailbox, no hardware or software to install in your network, you can see how it works in www.it4s.co
