Hi all,

When a user of mine tries to search for mails from a particular sender in her own inbox, only mails that have been sent in the past appear.

eg. the user was searching for a mail that was sent on Monday, but the only mails that appeared for this person were from May 2013 to September 2012. Its as if "recent" mails were excluded from the search.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Assuming you are using Exchange account, please right click the certain folder and choose properties > Synchronization > Filter ... to check if there is any filter setting right there. Please also switch the profile to Exchange online mode to check the result. In addition, you may try these:

 Check for pst/ost-file corruptions (Use Scanpst.exe tool)
 Disable and then re-enable the file for indexing
 Rebuild the index
