Searching Hub Transport messagetracking logs after they have been moved
HiWe are running Exchange 2007 SP1. I changed the location of our messagetracking logs on the Hub Transports, since the drive they were getting on was full. However, when I now run tracking commandlet:get-messagetrackinglog -sender "you@domain.com" -recipient "me@mydomain.com"I get no responses. Is there are a way I can search through the previous logs? Failing that, should I move them over? Once I changed the location, a new log file was created for today "MSGTRK20100318-1"I can move the 'old' files over, but what about the filename that already exists? Can I rename it?Thanks!

Funny you should mention that. I ran into the same problem and I really didn't have a good answer either. You can move them over and choose to overwrite the current one or lose the rest of the day's tracking. I don't know if it's safe to merge the two using Notepad or something, but you'd need to do it while you have the Transport service stopped.-- Ed Crowley MVP"There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems.". You could just wait until the following day and then renumber the logfiles so the one from the old location is "-1" and the one from thenew location is "-2". Then you can move the ones from the old locationto the new lcation without overwriting anything -- you just have twolog files from the same day.---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP--- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Thanks Rich - so I can actually rename the log files suffix (-1, -2 etc) to anything I want? I notice that per day I actually get up to about -5, so there is no issue creating a -6 etc, as long as the data within the file is intact?

Once the message trcking logs are written they aren't usde by Exchangefor anything except reporting. As long as there's no overlap in thetime sequences in the log files you should be okay. I'd just make surethat you insert the old logs into the -1, -2, -3, etc. sequence so thechronology is right. IOW, your old log files should appear before thenew ones when you order them by the -x sequences.---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP--- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP
