Send email with Exchange
This is my first Exchange setup and some help getting everything working. I am using SBS 2008 with Exchange 2007.I will be using the POP3 connector to receive all mail so I only need to be able to send SMTP mail.I use a server "stmp-server.xx.xx.com with a logon and password to connect to my account. I have set up hub transport connectors however everything I send is placed in the Unreachable queue. The last error is "A matching connector cannot be found to route the external recipient."And yes my send connecter has a * in the address space.

Hi,Please ensure that you can connect to port 25 from your server to the internet. Some internet providers won't allow you to run your own mailserver, in that case configure the send connector to deliver all mail to a smarthost. This smarthost can be the mailserver of your internet provider. Regards,Johan blog: www.johanveldhuis.nl

Hi, Like John said, Id like to recommend you to Contact your ISP and discuss the proper configuration of inbound routing. And then Write down the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) or IP address of the smart host server, and have it available when you run Configure Internet Mail Wizard. Besides, please check authentication method if it is the one that ISP specifies. You can't require security settings for a Send connector unless a smart host destination is specified. Configure the server to send and receive Exchange Server e-mail over the Internet http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc794268.aspx Regards, Xiu

I can connect to my SMTP server with telnet at port 25 and all my ISP does is take the SMTP outgoing email and sends it to my domain. My ISP only provides me with the SMTP server I need to send outgoing SMTP messages to.My problem is that the emails never get to the point that it sends a SMTP email to the outside world. Somewhere on my server it is not resolving the domain name correctly and thus the emails are not pointed to the outbound connector. How I fix this I have no clue.

Hi,As said by Xui define a smarthost this will forward all external mail to the smarthost instead of doing a DNS lookup.Regards,Johan blog: www.johanveldhuis.nl

Hi,Have you defined the FQDN of the smarthost or the ip-address, if you have defined the FQDN try the ip-address and check if this works. If this works then you've got a DNS issue. In that case please check the DNS configuration such as the forwarders if that is configured OK. Check if DNS works by performing a nslookup to something as www.microsoft.com.Regards,Johan blog: www.johanveldhuis.nl

I put the IP address in of my SMTP host and it still does the same thing. Other people have said they just set up outgoing mail using wizards, however nothign really works for me.

Hi, Please ensure that from your Exchange Server, you can telnet smarthost 25. Id like to know if you have assigned internet public IP to Exchange Server, is there any port mapping related configuration on Router?Besides, please ensure that the smarthost provide from ISP allow your Exchange Server to relay.More information to share with you:Configure or view outbound Internet e-mail optionshttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc546077.aspxRegards, Xiu
