Sent Items Retention policy does not seem to be working
Hello,We are running a simple, single instance of MS Exchange 2007 SP2 on Windows Server 2008 R2. This server has been in production since April of 2009. We started with and published (to our users) a Sent Items Rentention Policy of 60 days. It appears that this policy has not been running as I have seen several mailboxes that have sent items that are more than 60 days old. The policy is set to Retention Period Starts "When Items are Moved to the Folder" and Action to take at the end of the retention period: "Move to the Deleted Items Folder".Any tricks or insight would be greatly appreciated.Thank you,SJ

Hi SJ,As you may know installing Exchange 2007 SP2 on Windows 2008 R2 is not supported (http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2009/09/21/452567.aspx). Does it work for specific users or doesn't it work for anyone? I recommend to enable some extra logging to troubleshoot this issue, this needs to be done via Powershell:Set-MailboxServer -Identity <server> -RetentionLogForManagedFoldersEnabled trueKeep in mind the log can grow so you will need to place it on a volume with enough space, this can be done using adding this to the command: -LogPathForManagedFolders <MRM folder path>Regards,JohanExchange-blog: www.johanveldhuis.nl

HI Johan,Sorry that I had wrong information earlier. The server is Windows Server 2008 R1 sp1 x 64bit.I would be willing to turn on the logging, but before I do so, I was wondering if you know:a)when this Sent Items Deletion "task" should be running, and if it is possible to call the task with a powershell command.b)where the log file will write to?c)how to turn the logging off? I am guessing that it's the same command with the word false at the end.Thank you again.SJ

Hi,Here are the answers:a) it depends on what you scheduled get the properties of the db to find outb) you may specify the parameter for it: LogPathForManagedFolders c) Indeed just change it from true to falseRegards,JohanExchange-blog: www.johanveldhuis.nl

Hi Johan and others,I found a nice article that showed me the steps that I was missing.http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/compliance-policies-archiving/exchange-2007-messaging-records-management-part1.htmlI had modified the added the Managed Content Settings to our Deleted and Sent Items folders in Managed Default Folders. The two steps that I was missing was creating a Managed Default Folder Policy and Applying that Policy to the proper users. It appears to be working properly now. Thank you.SJ
