When I use Autofill or Flashfill for completing a series of dates in Excel 365, it will only give me the date in steps of a year, even though the Steps shows as 'Day'.  If I put in three entries to show the pattern, select those three cells, and use Flashfill, I then get those sets of three days for consecutive years.  I have not had this problem before. Can you please give me some help in fixing this annoying problem!

Based on your description, you said it worked fine before, I suppose this issue might be caused by custom settings in Excel.

I suggest you try to rename the XLB file in your computer. XLB files contain custom settings for the toolbars (or command bars). These settings can be edited or customized by selecting toolbar from the view options.

Please go to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel, and rename Excel15.xlb to Excel15.xlb.old, restart Excel and check if it works fine for you.
