Hi I would like to know if it's possible to have Server 2008 Standard X64 R2 as a domain controller with Active Directory, and Server 2008 Standard X64 with Exchange 2007, as Iv'e read that Exchange 2007 and Server 2008 R2 are not comatible. With the domain functional level of Server 2008 R2. Will this be compatible? We are currently in the process of setting up our domain from scratch, this is what it would consist of: 1x Primary Domain controller with Server 2008 R2 and Active Directory.1x Secondary Domain controller with Server 2008 R2 Active Directory. We currently don't have an exchange server in our environment. We would be putting Exchange Server 2007 in maybe a month or two after we complete our Domain and active directory setup. Does Exchange 2007 need to be installed on a Domain controller or can it be seperate? Will this configuration work? Thanks

Hi, No, Exchange 2007 cannot be installed on R2. It can be installed on a DC (not 2008 R2 though), but this is not a recommended configuration, it is best to have Exchange 2007 on a member server. As for Windows 2008 R2, please see this blog about SP2: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2009/05/26/451451.aspxIt indicates that you may have some trouble with the schema updates if you are pure R2 DC's at the moment, you can work around this by promoting a 2008 non-R2 or 2003 x64 for the schema updates temporarily and then demote if appropriate.
