Hi,I have a user who's default smtp address is ssmith@mydomain.com, but also has an address of s.smith@mydomain.com. If i want to make the s.smith the reply to, is it normal for me to have to uncheck the "automatically update email addresses based on email policy" box before I am able to click on the "set as reply"? if i dont uncheck that box, set as reply is grayed out.

When the box is checked Exchange stamps the email addresses based on Email Address Policies and primary SMTP address is assigned based on policy.If you want to change the primary SMTP address (by selecting Set as Reply button) then you must uncheck the box."If an e-mail address policy in your Exchangeorganization applies to this mailbox, the Set as Replysetting will be controlled by that policy.
